Flame of Hope Week is our annual community event where Law Enforcement, Corrections, Athletes, and Civilians come together to raise awareness for Special Olympics Michigan. Participants run throughout the state, carrying the torch as true Guardians of the Flame—champions for individuals with intellectual disabilities.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run® is the single largest grassroots fundraising effort for Special Olympics International. The two main goals of the Law Enforcement Torch Run® are to raise funds and create awareness for the athletes who participate in Special Olympics Michigan.

The cost to participate is $30, and all participants receive the annual Flame of Hope shirt.
Every dollar raised by Michigan’s Law Enforcement Torch Run goes directly back to the athletes. These funds help cover registration fees for regional and statewide tournaments. These events are about so much more than sports—they create: Inclusion and acceptance Awareness of individuals with intellectual disabilities Lifelong friendships Access to health screenings Life-changing experiences Most importantly, there is no cost to the athlete or their family to participate.
Absolutely! We encourage everyone to aim high with their fundraising. Incentives are earned through fundraising milestones Items will be shipped after Flame of Hope Week Be sure to use your personal fundraising page to maximize your impact and earn rewards.
Yes! Flame of Hope runs are open to everyone. Our goal is 500 participants, and we’d love for you to join a run near you. We always say: we go at the pace of our slowest runner or walker—because inclusion is what matters most.
LETR (Law Enforcement Torch Run) is the largest grassroots fundraising movement for Special Olympics worldwide. In Michigan, LETR: Raises over $2,000,000 annually Is led by law enforcement and corrections personnel Supports Special Olympics as part of its 501(c)(3) mission Focuses on raising funds and awareness for athletes.
